I am currently working on the deletion of a possible putative iron oxidizing gene in the model, Leptothrix cholodniii. Iron-oxidizing bacteria's widespread occurrence has raised concerns about their potential to cause environmental contamination as their metabolic processes have been linked to the degradation of waterways and water purification systems.

Undergraduate

My undergraduate research consisted of an in-vivo analysis of bone regeneration in Medaka fish with scoliosis versus normal adult fish. Humans and medaka have similar healing capacities, therefore the regeneration rate in medaka can be used as a model for human healing capacity.
